Police raids on HDP voters: 13 in custody

HAKKARİ / MUŞ (DİHA) - As part of the ongoing operations against supporters and voters of the HDP (Peoples' Democratic Party), a total of 13 people, including 2 children, have been detained as a result of house raids in Yüksekova (Gever) district of Hakkari and the village of Ejmanuk (Güzeltepe) in Muş province.

Repression of police and soldiers against Kurdish civilians has remarkably increased three days ahead of the general elections to take place in Turkey and North Kurdistan on June 7.

Special operation teams raided a number of houses in Esentepe, Güngör and Orman neigborhoods and Akalın (Bajêrge) village of Yüksekova district of Hakkari at 2 am midnight. Six people were taken into custody in the operation during which dwellers in the targeted addresses also suffered repression and threats by security forces who staged crackdown, breaking doors and assaulting those detained.

The detainees Kamuran Dündar, Mahkum Özdemir, Mahir Özdemir, Cihan Demir, Vedat Canan and Zerevan Subaşı have been taken to Yüksekova district police headquarters.

One other youth named Fırat Aydemir was detained at a military control point in the evening and taken to district police headquarters following an examination at hospital.

House raids in Muş: 6 in custody

On the other hand, 6 people were taken into custody in another operation of house raids by a large number of gendarme and police teams in Ejmanuk (Güzeltepe) village of Muş province.

M. Şirin Aktaş (26) and his wife Semra Aktaş (25), Nazire Aktaş (45), Aynur Aktaş (22), children D.A. (15) ve B.A.(16) are the detaines who have been taken to Muş provincial police headquarters and are being denied meeting with their lawyers.
