More than 12 thousands children work in Federal Kurdistan 2014-06-02 12:22:23 HEWLER (DİHA) - There are no up-to-date statistics regarding child labor in the Kurdistan Region. The latest numbers date back to 2010 and show that there were approximately 12,479 children working in the region. An official responsible for children in the Ministry of Labor and Social Affairs Ranjbar Sabir Osman told Kurdish media: “So far there is no new data to help us determine the number of working children in the Kurdistan Region, only old data.” “The Ministry of Labor and Social Affairs in cooperation with charity Save the Children conducted two surveys in 2007 and 2010,” said Osman. According to the 2007 statistics there were 14,878 children working in the Kurdistan Region. The number decreased to 12,479 children in 2010. “Statistics suggest that the ratio is decreasing by 16% and this was as a result of a plan carried out by the Ministry of Labor & Social Affairs and Save the Children. It is noticeable that the number of working children has decreased in the Kurdistan Region and most of the children that work come from abroad,” added Osman. (nt)
